Marcy Kaptur is a veteran Member of Congress with deep inroads in Northern Ohio. Redistricting drew Congresswoman Kaptur into a seat Donald Trump won by 3 points in 2020 (and won again in 2024), and thus a top target for the NRCC. In fact, before the 2024 elections, her district was only one of five won by Trump but held by a Democrat. We joined her team in October 2023 to grow her online fundraising apparatus and provide extra support to the campaign across online channels.
Approach
Our first order of business was to re-engage a large swath of her dormant list – so we partnered with Grassroots Analytics to identify and target the highest propensity donors to reengage. Our tactics largely revolved around leveraging NGP’s automation features to bring supporters back into the fold. From there, we expanded on a nominal texting program, focusing on mobile acquisitions from within the district and modeled outward to metro areas. Marcy Kaptur is a firebrand in her own right but the same tactics that apply to other campaigns simply would not work for her. Through a rigorous testing process, we found a content mix that would deliver high-quality content while bringing dollars in the door.
Result


In the 14 months we worked with Marcy’s team, we raised nearly $500,000 from online contributions, a notable increase in email and text categories. Specifically, we were able to increase text revenue for Marcy Kaptur by 38.48%. Our domain reputation held steady at high or medium throughout, and we made strategic acquisitions to grow her ability to connect with voters throughout Northern Ohio. One of our consistently best fundraising appeals was those stripped of all formatting and signed by Marcy directly.
